Kirby Banks
Kirby is a full-time landman and single mother of 3 kids, ages 14, 8 and 7. In 2006, she began her career as a landman in the oil and gas industry. She is very involved with her children and seeks to do everything she can to break the generational cycle of abuse. She is very aware of the effects it has on children and is actively working to get herself and her children the help they need to overcome the lasting effects of domestic violence.
As a survivor of 14 years of domestic violence including psychological, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, she feels it is her calling to raise awareness of domestic violence within her community. Kirby’s community involvement includes being a member of Determined to Rise Ministry for 3 years, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower female abuse survivors to reclaim, restore and restart their lives in a Christ-centered environment. She has shared her testimony at Women’s Abuse Survivor Conferences since 2017. She has participated in Mending the Soul groups for abuse survivors and after becoming a trained facilitator, she began leading her own groups.
As a member of VOICES of Acadiana, Kirby serves on the Education and Awareness Committee. This has become her passion and her goal for the future is to become a Domestic Violence Advocate so that she can continue to help others who have been impacted by domestic violence.
